First off, don’t call it a date. That’s far too intimidating. And if your Woo partner uses that word, run for the hills! Not out of a fear of commitment, but because they’re clearly out-to-lunch on the etiquette of Woo. You should have several backups you’re communicating with on the dating sites, so get busy.

And remember that a lot of people really don’t ever want to meet in person. They may not say it, but they find fulfilling lives by being Woo’d by people on the dating sites, and really don’t want to move it into the ‘real world.’

Still, once in a great while, in the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of people you are interacting with on the dating sites, there may one day be someone who want’s to breach the 3D world with you. First off, go back through your notes and be sure you are up to date on any of the fibs you told them about yourself. Also, if you’ve been using pictures of someone else in your profile — which is totally ok — you may want to back out at the last minute with some dramatic excuse, and move back online. Or pretend that they screwed up directions about where or when you planned to meet and dramatically blow up before ghosting them. That’s also an acceptable way to end things.
